The Best New Year’s Gift
For Taiwan Kagyu Buddhist Institute, the day of 12-20-09 was the first auspicious day after the arrival in India, because the entire group of people from Taiwan Kagyu Buddhist Institute met the His Holiness 17th Karmapa on the same day. The Institute reported and submitted the Rice Giving Project, Benefit Ocean Name List, and the balance of the Institute’s bank account to His Holiness 17th Karmapa.

His Holiness 17th Karmapa indicated compassionately, it is a very good thing to do, so keep doing the Rice Giving Project in the year of 2010. The entire group of people were deeply moved by Karmapa’s limitless compassion and immediately understood that this is one of the Karmapa’s Buddhist careers. By doing the best to complete the Rice Giving Project is meaning like carrying out one of Karmapa’s Buddhist careers. This would be the best New year gift for every one. In such an auspicious day in Bodhgaya, receiving such a wonderful gift, it was very special and meaningful.

Human Bodhisattva
Master Sheng Yen said that the person who rescued the suffering beings was the bodhisattva, the person who has been suffering was the big bodhisattva.
For this trip to Bodhgaya, the entire group of people were responsible to complete the following within 13 days
1. Gyalwang Karmapa's teachings on Nagarjuna’s "Letter to a Friend"
2. Attending the Kagyu Monlam.
3. Completing the Rice Giving Project.
4. Meeting with Karmapa and Rinpoches.
5. Holding the Fire Offerings.
6. Being volunteers at Kagyu Monlam。
7. Participating the charity sales and then offer the funds to the temples.
8. Visiting the Buddhist sacred places.
Especially, the important duties were to help to complete the Rice Giving Project to achieve the “no-differentiation” offering.

This trip, besides Karmapa’s and Rinpoche’s teaching, Monlam and Rice Giving activities, it was also inspired by the entire group members who performed the Buddhist spirit.《維摩Sutra》said that there is a lamp of wisdom in everyone’s mind. We can offer this lamp to every one else. So let every one lights up her/his own lamp in her/his mind. We have seen this lamp lighting up in every group member’s mind. This is also called the Buddha’s mind to light up the other people. Hope this lamp would be transferring to everyone’s mind forever.
